Our BASE Jump event, that took place in
Turkey for the first time in 2008, was held in one of our most
magnificent canyons, Kemaliye's Karanlık (Dark) Canyon, housing walls
that are at times up to 600m tall. This event that mesmerizes even
adrenalin junkies, has been drawing a wider pool of participating
international athletes each year. During this event, expert BASE
jumpers, in groups of 2 or 3, are able to come down ropes at a 500m
altitude and jump into the darkness of the Karanlık Canyon, towards the
Karasu River.
The wonderful BASE Jump
events that will be taking place at the Karanlık Canyon this year, will
draw participating athletes from Australia, the USA, and many other
countries all over the world. This year, the athletes, jumping from the
“Sırat on Fırat” Bridge towards the Karasu River, will be landing on a
floating platform and WingSuite jumps will be taking place in the canyon
for the first time, as well.
Our Mountaineering and
Cycling Federation will also be present within the festival, as in
previous years, with their events specific to the Kemaliye region. Also,
rock climbers from all over the world will be racing on hundreds of
Kemaliye's climbing sites, and the javelin games will be taking place in
one of Turkey’s most beautiful parks, where local athletes will be in
attendance.
Another new event within the
festival this year will be the “Discover Kemaliye” tours, and this
journey into the untouched beauties of Kemaliye will continue with
village trips as well. Throughout your time here, you will be able to
join a wide array of activities taking place within the scope of the
festival, including outdoor sports such as rock climbing, watercourse
sports (river and sea-skiing, canoeing, rafting), lake sports (water
skiing, rowing), and mountain biking, as well as art exhibitions, and
performances demonstrating Kemaliye's local folklore.
Participants are also
encouraged to document these fervid days of nature with both
photographic and video cameras. The National Kemaliye Photo-safari
competition, organized by photographer Sıtkı Fırat and taking place
throughout the festival, will be open to all nature lovers. All who are
interested will be invited to take part in this 10,000 YTL prized
photography competition, sponsored by Kemaliye District, Office of the
Mayor, KEMAV, and the Photographic Arts Organization, as well as all of
the other breathtaking events held within this unique location.
Organized by the Kemaliye
Culture and Development Foundation (KEMAV) and in partnership with the
Mayor's Office and the Kemaliye District, this years' 34th International
Kemaliye (Eğin) Culture and Outdoor Sports Festival's main themes will
be “an authentic cultural feast, the love of nature, sports and
fraternity.”
Like each preceding year, we
once again invite culture and outdoor sports enthusiasts to Kemaliye for
an unparalleled cultural and nature-filled experience.
