BASE Jumping
I started BASE jumping in 2006 jumping off of low objects. Typically slider down jumps can range from 35 m to 150 m. Slider down jumping requires great assessment skills. In addition to making sure the object is high enough to jump, you also need to take into account the weather conditions, landing options and pilot chute size and deployment method. My favorite slider down jumps are the ones that require a tricky access. In Moab my favorite jumps are from towers that require climbing, and the logistics of how to jump all the climbing gear down. Also, winter jumping in the Alps has introduced me to new approach methods adding a whole new aspect to the sport that I find very intriguing.
Wingsuit jumping requires a large understanding of understanding how the body and suit fly. It is also necessary to be able to read the terrain you are flying and assess weather conditions. Because wingsuit jumps are typically 700-2000 m, it is important to be in good shape for the long hikes. One of the main reasons I fell in love with wingsuiting is because it gives me a chance to explore in the mountains where few people typically go. Wingsuiting has not only improved my physical shape, but it has also improved me mentally by teaching me how to calmly manage stressful situations.
